III. ICT Today

ICT Today is ever-present, with over three billion people having access to the Internet. With approximately 8 out of 10 Internet users owning a smartphone, information and data are increasing by leaps and bounds. This rapid growth, especially in developing countries, has led ICT to become a keystone of everyday life, in which life without some facet of technology renders most of clerical, work and routine tasks dysfunctional. The most recent authoritative data, released in 2014, shows "that Internet use continues to grow steadily globally; the number of Internet users in developing countries has doubled in five years, with two thirds of all people online now living in the developing world. 

ICT (information and communications technology - or technologies) is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning. ICTs are often spoken of in a particular context, such as ICTs in education, health care, or libraries. The term is somewhat more common outside of the United States.

IV. World Wide Web

World Wide Web (WWW) is an information space where documents and other web resources are identified by URLs, interlinked by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the Internet. The World Wide Web was invented by english scientist Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. This is the most important part of the internet. It is where all the data is stored and you can discover a whole new world if you browse through the web. The WWW is the information that is available on the internet in form of web pages. The world wide web is essentially a part of the internet where one can interact and communicate in a diversified manner by the use of text, images, animations, colors and sounds. The web needs a connection to the internet, a personal computer, routers and switches, and a hosting server to be able to run.

V. Social Media

 Social media has taken the globe through dozens of websites, mobile apps, and other forms of technologies improving the way people communicate with each other. There are social media sites that have millions of members allowing them to share photos, videos, text messages, and more on a regular basis. Social media are tools that allows people, companies and other organizations to create, share, or exchange information, career interests, ideas and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks.

VI. Research and Information Seeking

     Research and Information Seeking is the process of getting an information in any contexts. This is the act of aiming sources in order to establish facts and for a questions and conclusions to be answered. It is an ideal application that is made through the innovation of ICT and World Wide Web.

• Web Search Engines

 This is a program that searches for and identifies items in a database that correspond to keywords or characters specified by the user, used especially for finding particular sites on the World Wide Web. 

• Research Indexing Sites

Research Indexing Sites collects parses, and stores data to facilitate fast and accurate information. This incorporates interdisciplinary concepts from linguistics, cognitive psychology, mathematics, informatics, and computer science.

• Massive Online Open Course (MOOC)

MOOC is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via World Wide Web.

• Employment Websites

This is a website that deals specifically with employment or careers. Many employment websites are designed to allow employers to post job requirements for a position to be filled and are commonly known as job boards.

• Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce)

This is a type of business model, or segment of a larger business model, that enables a firm or individual to conduct business over an electronic network, typically the internet.
